Realistic is always hard to accept, but you need to accept it, because it is valuable. Being optimistic, you may have possitive thinkings, and I believe that it want to benefit you to work out better, and make everything goes through without any problem or troubles. Good and bad are sometimes blending to each other, and they are hard to recognize often, so seeing the good or bad is also valuable. Planning goals in life is also called "an influence" for our optimism. You could reach our plans and achieve it without any problem if you think possitively in our daily life. An optimistic person is usually far more capable of handling setbacks than a pessimistic person.

Being optimistic is also a way for how to achieve goals in life. In the case when you keep your own feet on the ground, you still can achieve your personal objectives in some days. Being overly optimistic may actually be unhelpful. You must have realistic plans otherwise you want to end up disappointed at failing to achieve unrealistic objectives. This might lead to us feeling like a failure and therefore have an impact on our happiness.
